The concern for online safety for children in India is underscored by the alarming statistics related to cybercrimes against minors. Recent data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reveals a significant surge in such incidents. In 2021, a total of 1,49,404 crimes against children were registered, with 53,874 of these cases, or about 36%, being categorized under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This includes a wide range of sexual offenses, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive online safety education as part of broader digital literacy efforts (ClearIAS).
